Welcome the first EAAS principles of knee arthroscopy course to be held at The Mater Misericordie Nairobi, Kenya. This course aims to expose the participants with the skill necessary to perform and treat common knee ligament injuries arthroscopically. The learning objectives and the expected course outcomes are.

To understand arthroscopic anatomy of the knee.

To understand theatre instruments and set up for knee arthroscopy.

To arthroscopically diagnose knee cruciate and ligament injuries.

To understand the principles of arthroscopic ACL and meniscus surgery plus rehabilitation.

To assess and formulate a management plan for the treatment of patella instability, MPFL injuries and multi-ligament knee injuries.

We hope to achieve the objectives through 2 days of expert lectures, dry lab practicals and live surgery.

Dr Opondo Everisto

Phd, MbchB, Mmed (surg), FCS-COSECSA (ORTHO), Dip-SICOT (ORTHO)

Prof Everisto Opondo is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the department of Surgery and Dean School of Medicine at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Prof Opondo attend The University of Nairobi Medical School where he attained his undergraduate and surgical residency training in 2006. He also completed fellowship training in Orthopaedics under the College of surgeons of East and Central Africa. He further attended fellowship training in arthroscopy and sports Medicine from India and Brazil.

Prof Opondo currently runs a private practice based at the Nairobi Hospital Doctors Plaza. His practice is focused on orthopaedic trauma, arthroplasty, and orthopedic sports medicine. When surgery is necessary my patients recieve the latest state of the art procedures such arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair.
